Our Practice
Our practice and interest areas of law include construction, telecommunications and information technology, international trade probate (wills) and administration of estates, company secretarial and corporate advisory, immigration, real property, dept recovery, maritime law, debt recovery and employment law.
We also offer general litigation services and other forms of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) including mediation and arbitration.
Our Departments
Bearing in mind our focus on commercial legal practice, our capability to offer specialized legal services to individuals and our general competencies, Watermans Legal Practitioners is structured into the following broad divisions:-
Dispute resolution (ADR & litigation)
Our dispute resolution divisions is composed of litigation and alternative dispute resolution departments. Our litigation divisions is supervised by seasoned counsel competent to conduct all manner of litigious proceedings before the courts including initiating and defending litigation claims relevant to our areas of practice or as may be required generally. Being a commercial practice, we recognize that commercial exigencies or contractual requirement may dictate the application of alternative dispute resolution mechanisms like arbitration and mediation. We do recognize the need to keep a window open for amicable resolutions. We are able to offer quality services in this regard. We also have competency in certain industry specific dispute resolution mechanisms, including the FIDIC model of the dispute arbitration boards applicable in the construction.
Company Secretarial
We offer business registrations and company secretarial services on an ad hoc or retainer basis. We also advice on corporate restructurings and ancillary matters.
Commercial advisory & contracts drafting
We firmly believe that the better the quality of advice, negotiation and documentation, the higher the likelihood that a client’s commercial position will prevail and be sustainable in any ensuing dispute that may arise or at the very least, a balancing of parties positions will be achieved resulting in a win-win situation. In this regard, we offer commercial and corporate legal advisory and documentation services in all our areas of practice. Undoubtedly, this will have a veritable time cost saving effect.
Additionally subsumed within this division of the firm, we advice upon and oversee all aspects of property transactions including Leases/Tenancies, Mortgages, Conveyances and perfection procedures consents, stampings and registrations.
